The next municipal elections are on Saturday, May 16, 2026.
Nordic citizens gain the right to vote in local elections when registering to live in a municipality. Other foreign citizens acquire the right to vote after three years of continuous residence in Iceland, provided that other conditions for the right to vote are met.
We encourage everyone with the right to vote in Iceland to use this right.
